About the Tour
The Anderson Dam Seismic Retrofit Project aims to reconstruct the dam to meet current seismic safety standards and regulations. The project includes enlarging the dam’s spillway and outlet capacities, enabling a swift and controlled reduction of water levels in emergencies, thereby improving flood protection.
Valley Water initiated the first of two construction phases in 2021 with a 1,700-foot diversion tunnel featuring a low-level outlet. The tunnel construction is projected to finish by mid-2024. This outlet will enable Valley Water to efficiently lower the reservoir levels, thus enhancing control over water management and bolstering public safety. The access only tour will enable the visitor to see the activities involved and the safety measures in place. It may allow walking alongside agencies such as the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) and the California State Water Resources Control Board.

About the Presenter:
Mary Harvey, the EHS Manager at Valley Water, has extended an invitation to her Chapter to preview the actual activities on-site before the onset of the rainy season. Her team’s collaboration with Valley Water’s Construction Unit have been pivotal in ensuring the safety of this project. She has arranged for an expert tour guide for this thrilling event.
