About the Talk
Join Kumiko Helming with the ASSP CPS for an insightful presentation on the crucial role of safety professionals in promoting mental health within the workplace. We’ll explore how to navigate psychosocial risk, discuss the Obligation of Civility, and delve into the mitigation of Psychosocial Hazards.
Attendees will learn effective methods to manage these hazards, including the “Explain, Train, and Maintain” approach. Identify hazards, train employees on handling strong emotions, and maintain updated policies on hazardous behaviors.
Ultimately, our goal is to ensure that no employee leaves the workplace with an illness or injury derived from their work environment. Follow along, as we explore how to mitigate these unique risks and promote a healthier, safer workplace for all.

About the Presenter:
Kumiko Helming owns and operates MBS Alaska, a safety consultancy where she practices traditional safety, small business safety management, and whole-body health and safety. She created her company to help small businesses get afford
able service and to practice safety in creative ways. Kumiko has been in the OSH industry for nearly 7 years. In 2021 she
obtained her Associates of Applied Science degree in Occupational Safety and Health, and later graduated from CSU with her Bachelor’s Degree and GSP designation in 2023. In addition, Kumiko serves the State of Alaska with an Industry seat on the Alaska Safety Advisory Council, appointed by Governor Mike Dunleavy. In her spare time, she regularly volunteers with the Anchorage School District to promote Safe Work and Entrepreneurship for Alaskan youth.
